Bobba, can you pick yours up from above without them freaking out? Or do you sort of usher them on to your hand to get them out?

I was also surprised when I heard of people needing gloves! Even my first batch of ASFs only really bit me like 3 times, and 2 were through the bars of a cage, so mostly my fault.

I don't think they'd enjoy being lain on their back though

This is an interesting topic... I too have read many posts on mean ASFs... I'd consider raising them as feeders instead of regular rats if I could get some nice tame ones to start with.

Yeah they have a bad reputation. I wish the entire BP community would get on board with them. From my experience they have been very tame except when they have young. The other thing people talk about is prey imprinting, it does happen but I have not experienced it at all with our C.H. babies they will eat f/t or live mice, rats, or asfs and switch between all of them with no problems.

I think Alberta is the only "(Norway) rat free province."

Although I found out we can't import ASFs even though they are legal to own :/

I just assumed mine were mean, so I've always picked them up with kitchen tongs. But I forgot for some reason yesterday when I was pulling out some hoppers, my mind kind of wandered and I realized I was sitting there absentmindedly petting the mamas on the giant baby pile, kind of scratching them the way I scratch my dogs behind the ears, and none of them even flinched! So I guess I have nice ones lol.
