Website design advice please
I am extremely lucky to have a mother who is a professional photographer and who owns a website design company, for she has kindly offered to build me a website (and teach me to take better pictures, but that is a whole 'nother issue). Today she asked me what pages I wanted, and apparently my reply of "available, about us, contact, and terms and conditions" was a bit lacking in her eyes.
What else should I have? What do people like to see, and what is annoying/extraneous? I was thinking KISS, she seems to think something more elaborate is called for. She mentioned videos, I have no videos, and I doubt I'm doing anything particularly exciting that warrants videos. Or would you (as a consumer) like to see videos? Perhaps a 10 or 20 second clip of the available snake? It's supposed to auto-format/fit for tablets and mobile devices, but that's about the only feature I could think of.
I don't NEED a website obviously (I'm not exactly prolific, I have a whopping two pairings going this year), but she's kindly volunteered to do it despite being terrified of snakes, and hopefully in a couple seasons I'll have enough neat stuff available for it to be worth clicking on.

You can do Care as well other stuff which I won't mention because I don't want my ideas taken prior to me .
You can have links to other places if the other places are willing to link to yours. You could have Staff page with a little bio of yourself and all. Some other options are breeding projects, birth records, photo gallery, holdbacks, your collection.
A number of things, but you just have to be creative

What! You aren't going to let me steal all of your good ideas?!
Good suggestions though, thank you. I'll forward them to her and see what she thinks (I know she'll like anything involving more pics though) and I'll start making a list of potential links.

Re: Website design advice please
As a web site designer I also agree with KISS. I hate sites where I have to search all over for the info I want, which is mainly your contact/about info (these can be on page), terms, and what you have for sale. Or if you don't want a separate "contact us" page put your contact info on the header/footer of each page.
Available: depending on what/how many snakes you are selling, it could be a simple list with a thumnail picture and short description of each animal that contains a link to a more detailed page containing more pictures, video, etc. of that animal, to one that has a search engine where users can search by morph, sex, size, etc.
Something that you could also include, and that isn't often seen, is that if this is an animal you bred put up a link to the detailed pages for the sire and dam. If you're showing me a pastel hatchling for a premium price, I'm going to be more likely to pay it if I see that the parent(s) are also high-quality pastels as adults because that baby won't be as likely to brown out.

To me I don't think a breeder needs to bother with the whole BP care stuff. Other websites have that covered. When I visit breeder sites I like to see an available page with good pics and details of the cross and the genes, about us page, maybe a facility page if that's not included in the about us, contact info easy to find, and maybe a page for their breeding animals. I don't think you need videos, just clear pics. Once you get the basics of a DSLR down it's super easy.

So I was thinking a bit more about it last night and I had an idea, which may just be overkill. If I posted an animal on the available page it could have the parents listed as well, and have it set up so that you could click on the parent and it would go to a page for that parent (perhaps housed under a "collection" tab?). On that page have pics of the parent, and then clutch data for each year with pics of the offspring so you could see what sort of babies that animal tends to produce. Good idea, or just too much info to sort through?
I was just remembering how useful comparing the offspring is for horses, when you see one baby that has an ugly head it might be a fluke, but when you look at 100 babies from the same stallion and they ALL have ugly heads...

Re: Website design advice please
I think being able to see parents would be a good thing.
