    Uth and heat lamp

I'm curious. I have both in my set ups. Is a UTH really necessary. I leave the UTH for a hot spot and for belly heat to help with digestion. But if my lamp is heating up one side of the tank good enough,do I really need a UTH.. I've had no problems having the two as I have my UTH on a thermostat and regulated by a thermometer as well. My snakes seem very happy. Always hiding,do night time exploring, eat and shed great. They say if it ain't broke don't fix it. But if it am get away with not having a UTH,mainly if it's not needed, then I may do so,maybe.

If your temps are ok with just the lamp, then the UTH isn't needed if you don't want to use it.

Ok,TY..yeah,I'm not sure what I wanna do..maybe since it's winter and my apt is at an avg of 70-72 I'll leave the UTH for now...come summer I'll just be using a heat bulb, cause when I'm not home my apt can be about 78-85on avg.

i just also find when I use a higher watt bulb it dries my tank out quicker, lower watt bulb keeps humidity pretty good which is also why I am keeping the UTH... Dead tougher with tanks and keeping the humidity,so the UTH plays the little bit extra heat for them since I use a lighter watt bulb, thought he tank is still very warm and comfortable for them

The UTH works when you don't have a,light on 24/7, like in my setup. Since my snakes are in my room, and I like to sleep in the pitch black. If you don't mind the lights, they would probably work as long as it gets warm enough under the warm side hide.

I use only lights with no problem at all. The temps stay in low 90s to 80s and I haven't had any shedding problems.

You can always run a ceramic heat bulb. That way you can still have a heat lamp without the light.

I was always told that a UTH is a must 24/7. If your snakes are happy why change anything?

Jessica,I'm not going to change it.,you are right. I always thought a a UTH was a must...I actually just cleaned out one of my tanks, full clean, washed inside and out and put the heat pad back.. The bottom of the tank was pretty cold when I disconnected the UTH this morning til this afternoon right before I cleanedit. I wanted to see how it got inside the hide basically. I left the thermometer in and with my heat bulb on,it about 70 under his hide and I don't like that..so things will remain how they are, come summer I'll prob be able to disconnect the UTH,but we will see. I doubt I will

You can get a ceramic bulb and you should. I'm sure that heat pad doesn't keep the tank warm enough or even under the hide warm enough for your snake. Unless your heat pad is not thermostat regulated otters heat pad is up super high...you have a snake it's your job to take care of them,so it's not about what you like, which is sleeping in the dark, but about what's necessary to take full care of this animal that relies on you to give it what it needs.

having a pets a responsibility. If you can do what's 100% necessary to make sure there happy..then don't have a pet.

Srry man, dont mean to sound mean or whatever, but I'm a big animal person. I make sure that I take Careof them to the fullest and give them what they need to live full happy healthy lives. If I have to do adjusting to my life then I will do s. thats what comes with having pets IMO

    anyway,thnx for the advice
