    Keeping Snake Warm

I have 4x2x1H cage with 11: flexwat but already I am having to run a space heater to keep the ambient up. It will cost a small fortune to do this all winter (I'm in the NE). Some people say rhp will help and others say it doesn't do more than a few degree for ambient temps. Can someone with experience in colder climates chime in? If the RHP will work (it gets cold here, like 60F if I don't run the space heater)., how do I make a hole big enough for the power plug but not have escapes, maybe fill it in with foam sealer? Also would a rhp/flexwatt combo be redundant, maybe just use one?

I have a cold issue in my house and the only solution I have come up with was to get a proper cage to retain heat I have a uth set up with a thermostat and I use an oil heater that's set up to a thermostat as well. You can try insulating the outside of the tank with Styrofoam. I had a friend do that in the past because he had a class tank that didn't hold heat well.

Hope you can figure it out.

i cannot figure out what a RHP is supposed to be.

a google image search for RHP shows me:

    - lots of headphones
    - some ball bearings
    - a hiphop band
    - a military humvee
    - someone inlining on a threadmill
    - a yacht
    - a tank
    - power drills

overall, headphones and ball bearings dominate.

    Hey Man!

I live in Utah, so it gets pretty cold her most of the year haha.....really depends on what ya can afford as far as your heating bill goes.

I have a 20 gal aquarium and use a UTH for substrate heat and use a heat lamp (with 100watt red bulb) hanging about 6" above the lid of the terrarium. I also keep my house at 70 degrees F.

All of the above gives me about 85 degrees f for ambient temp.

    Hope that helps

What is your enclosure made out of? You may want to look into an enclosure that is insulated.

RHP's do well in an enclosure that will hold the heat in ( ie. wood and thicker plastic cages). I have notice that the ambient a temps staying pretty high, compared to the room they are in, with a customer wood enclosure. I would also have to say that heat tape doesn't help with ambient temps as much, but I am running heat tape in all my racks that are in a thermo regulated room.

By the way I'm in PA, so winters can get pretty bad here.
