So Just My Luck :(
so i have a breeding group of 1.3 and after waiting 5 months for my asf to breed two females finally had their first litters but then my male asf didn't look good his face looked puffy and he died about 4 days later so what do i do now? should i just let one of the babies grow up to be the new male but that will take months!!
anyone have any ideas on what i can do or do i just have to wait it out
Thanks

That is unfortunate for sure, do you know how old the male was? Hopefully there isn't a environment problem. I would be careful adding a new male, asf's can be a little mean when it comes to adding new members to the group.
You can always grow out a male, as you mentioned, asf rats do take a while to grow.

Re: So Just My Luck :(
The male was young only 4 or 5 months i know this because i got some asf fuzzys and gave them to a rat to raze so i could add an new colony with a new blood line and so they would be nicer than if they were raised by asf rats the rest of the colony is doing good i was worried it was an environment problem the funny thing was there was 2 males in the same tub and i took the younger male out a few days before he died if only i left him in there

Cant you put the younger male back in? I don't know much about ASF's but if you just took him out not to long ago, I would think you could put him back in. Maybe someone else can verify that for you.

Whenever I've had to add new blood into a colony, I've found using freshly weaned babies work best.
Taking an adult and moving him/her into an adult colony has never ended well, and usually results in fighting immediately.
