Temps in bottom tub in a rack
Hi there
Is there any recommendation in how to raise the temps in the lower tub in a rack?
The tstat is already set to 94 I rather not raise it any higher if possible. Hot temps in upper tub reads 92 in some spots, while the lower tub reads usually 88-89. I've been trying to stabilize them all together, but that seems like the closest I can get.
The rack sits in a wooden table and is controlled by a Herpstat.
I have one of the older reptile basics around 2009. Is an older pic, but everything still the same, except I use Aspen now.
Thanks a lot for your time
Danny

I keep newspaper in the bottom racks (thinner material) and that helped bring the temps pretty close to even. I have a really similar setup. A ball room rack with a herpstat as well. I placed the probe in position #2 (from the top). Hope it helps.

The hole for the probe is in #3 from top to bottom, the rack comes with a hole for it at the spot.
I took a bunch of aspen out of the lower tubs, I would say about 30% and put the 2 males in the 2 bottom tubs so I don't mess with the females on top so much for now. Gonna read the temps later on today and see what happens.
Paper was so easy on temps on humidity, specially in Florida. It sucks to clean though. If anything I will go back to that, but I want to try to make this work first.
Thanks.

i have heard if you start you termostat on the middle tub and go from middle to top then middle to bottom it helps. Most people start the thermostat on the first tub and go down

I felt the same way about paper as well, but in the end when I have to clean out the tubs I know they are as clean as they can be as opposed to spot cleaning. Keep in mind we are only talking about 4 snakes today as opposed to many. How I found a sweet spot for my setup. Hope it helps.
I placed the probe on the second shelf in the rack from the top. My rack has 2 rows of heat tape. I do not use the rear row at all.
I set the herpstat to 88.0 and moved on from there in tenths (up or down) until I hit the mark.
I used a temp gun to spot check the temps.
I wanted to keep 1 degree delta from the bottom to the top.
At the top I'm at about 89 and at the bottom at about 88.
They eat just fine, shed perfectly every time, thermoregulate as they see fit and are thriving.
I've had this setup now for 7 years plus.

Re: Temps in bottom tub in a rack
I've put a layer of Reflectix underneath all my racks to help, and it does. I've also put a layer on top of each, since the top tubs seem to run cooler, too.
