Re: I built a rat rack

I'm hoping to get 20 babies born every 2 weeks. I have the 6 tubs and 1 20 gallon long tank. My entire system is 1:14.

Run those tubs at 1.4 and you'll do better than 20 every other week if your stock is good. Of course, if you don't stagger the age of the animals in the tubs you'll get 100 one week and then nothing then 50 then nothing, etc. But that should take care of your needs.

    For now.

Re: I built a rat rack

I could do 40 every 2 weeks if I had 4 females in each tub. Then i would do 1.28 But only need 7 per week right now.

    Good job! Looks professionally done.

I'm running 1.4 in my concrete mixing tubs.

I don't like having so many smelly males.

I don't really notice the males being more smelly in the racks, but rotating males definitely lets you control the breeding timing and lets you control the genes and hold back females easier.

How do you folks stagger the males? Do you keep a male with a tub of females for two weeks then move him on to the next drawer of females?
