Food and bedding for new mice breeding set up
I have mice 2 males and 8 females at the moment (bought what they had).
I am setting up a rack and was wondering what you guys are using for bedding and what you are feeding them?
I have aspen bedding in with them now as I had some left over and just bought a box of rodent food from walmart for the time being.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I use aspen shavings from Tractor Supply, $10.99 for a 4 cf bag, and you could buy mouse block from Muzuri http://www.mazuri.com/

I use aspen, as it's the only type of wood shavings that doesn't bother my allergies. I no longer keep mice, just ASFs.
Mazuri is what most will suggest, although I was not able to find any that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
I feed hog food, supplemented with seeds and fruits.

TSC, I believe, still sells Doggy Bag Dog food or something like that. It's pretty good for rodents from what I've heard. They don't have TSC out here so I've never been able to try it.
You can order from Mazuri, they ship, or see if any feed stores near you carry rodent food.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

Re: Food and bedding for new mice breeding set up
Mazuri food is top notch and designed for breeding and nursing mamas. Harlan Teklad is another good brand. Any kind of food from Walmart is pretty much garbage.
I use kiln dried pine. Its $6 for a 4 cu/ft bag or something like that.

Yes, we use a mix of the Terramigo pellets and either wood or paper shavings. The pellets are great for absorbency and odor control. The wood shavings or paper shaving bedding makes it softer for them and they can nest in it. We seem to clean a lot less with this mix.

Re: Food and bedding for new mice breeding set up
All the mice are dead.
Not sure what the deal is, all of the feeder mice have died, and all in less then a week. I have fancy mice that are set up the exact same way (tank, food, water bottles, hides, bedding, everything) and they are thriving but all the feeders died.
Any thoughts?
