Poke a hole in the cup, pick them off as they crawl out, slide the coin over the hole. The straw trick has been the best thing for me. I hate Fruit Flies.
You can slow them down but they warm back up really quick.
Or just cut them up a cricket.

Neat! Although I'd be scared the quarter would get moved or something and I'd be overrun by fruit flies lol. That could work though.
They actually slowed down long enough for me to feed the two that need them.
Yea, Idk, I've just never tried feeding dead. And I'm out of crickets since everything else is on roaches.

Yeah feeding just 2 isn't that bad, you can get them before they warm back up.
You can cut up roaches too. They will eat what they need.

Are those curly winged or vestigial winged fruit flies? The completely wingless fruit flies are much easier to contain. I used to have true wingless flies, it was like dealing with ants. Just shake them down and tap them into a cup to feed from. Unfortunately I allowed them to die out. I recently picked up a colony of the curly winged flies and they're a MUCH bigger pain to deal with. They only fly a couple of inches but it's enough, they do this hop/fly thing that lets them spread out pretty quick. The true wingless flies will hop a little bit but it's not as much of a problem.

Um lol honestly I'm not too fruit fly knowledge. They're the ones they sell at Petco. The jar says they're Drosophila melanogaster. I looked that up and it said "common fruit fly." They don't seem to fly at all, they just walk up stuff like freaking Spiderman.

Nicole, I used to breed poison dart frogs and I used both hydei (flightless) and melanogaster (wingless) fruitflies to feed them. The cultures were a pain at first, but my tip to you other than the straw idea which is pretty neat is to take your palm and tap the top about 10 times before opening the container, have everything ready to transfer before doing this and then open the lid, shake a few that crawl up top out and close the lid again. It takes some practice, but after a while you'll be a pro at it.
