You can house them together, but if you do, make sure you've got two females...or a male and female pair. But ONLY get a male and female if you are ready to deal with all the issues that come with breeding. Two males could become aggressive with each other once they've reached sexual maturity...unless you have a REALLY big enclosure that allows each to have his own separate territory complete with separate basking areas, gradients and food sources. May as well have two enclosures for all that trouble. But females usually get along ok with each other.

A pair should not have anything smaller than a 65 gallon tank...75 or 100 gallons would be better...go more for floor space than height. But they can start out in something a bit smaller when they're babies. Make sure they don't have to compete for basking or hiding spots.

A single beardie can live happily in a 55 gallon, or even a 45, but I wouldn't go any smaller than that for a life-long home.
