    1.4

Would it be ok to leave 1.4 all together even when they have babies?? The 4 so far are 2 preggo at a time and get put into their own tanks, but if I can use only 1 tank it would be awesome!!!!

    Re: 1.4

I had a 1.3 colony (i Have since expanded ) and the only issues I had with leaving them all together was moms fighting over the babies. I had one mother who felt she was super mom and had to have all the babies at anytime. I ended up making a rodent rack and have since loved it. I have 4 tubs 2 grow out 2 birthing and the breeding cage. So I would say you may be OK depends on the moms but more than likely you will need to move them.

You can keep them together. It's called 'harem style' breeding. The females will wear out quickly as they have back to back litters and can and will become pregnant again 24 hours after they give birth. This means that they're about to have more babies by the time the other ones are weaned. You'll have to replace females more often. If the females are raised together they will be good moms for each other's babies but it is not guaranteed. If you have a female killing babies or stealing them to the point that they die, replace her until you get a good set of moms that work together.

To answer your question about only 2 preggo at a time, its because I only put 2 in with him to start. I put the other 2 in their own 10 gallon tanks alone, then when the others were near giving birth, I switched them out. I am hoping to kind of keep it 2 at a time, but I don't really like the idea of what MrLang said, so I think I will just keep separating them!!!!

Yes, I know tanks are for fish, but if they weren't meant to house something else as well, then I don't think people would make so many accessories to do so!!! I wont be storing any snakes in them, I have tubs and stuff for that, the only snake in a tank is my yellow annie, and she will go into a really big tank with plenty of room after QT!

I use tanks too but building racks soon here running outta room kinda pumped for it I'm gonna set up twelve tubs I think cuz I wanna make sure I have all room ill ever need and two 6 set racks fit perfect in the space I wanna lose. Far as females together so far I haven't had luck specially with a girl with a litter and ones that dont have them, one girl was just always in the way laying with mom and babies but never took them, the litter I just had tho she had two siblings with her I pulled them out ASAP when the one was giving birth the other girls wouldn't stay away and were messing with her she ate one and was eatting a second when I took the other girls out after they left she mellowed out it was her first litter so that probably played into eating babies

Yeah, I do want a rack, don't get me wrong lol, but its what I have for now.

I think for me a 12 rack set up would be perfect 2, 2 breeding tubs, 4 birthing tubs, 2 grow up tubs, and then I would say 4 resting tubs, to give females time to recoup before breeding again. May even do 3 breeding tubs lol, dunno we will see when the time comes!!

I say tanks are for fish because ammonia is heavier than air and tanks tend to hold that ammonia in making the rats sick.
If you have good ventilation it can help, but tanks really aren't idea for breeding rodents in
