    Blackbacks?

Does anyone know anyone who dabbles with them or sells them? Or has ever proved one out? I know Ralph has blackheads but I'm talking straight black backs. Any ideas? Thanks everyone hopefully this girls stripe is genetic.

There are people who claim to have genetic lines, I don't recall any names offhand. Just search for blackbacks on KS and fauna, see what turns up.

I did breed a blackback het pied to a blackback pewter this year. Disappointed that only one little pastel male inherited the blackback (out of five eggs hatched). But he did turn out pretty spectacular. So I'm holding him back for a year or two to breed.

(And that is a pretty dramatic girl you've got there. She should meet my het pied boy, or maybe my black pastel male.)

EDIT: Honestly, looking at that kind of waving alien head pattern she has going partway down, I think she looks more "genetic" than any of my blackbacks. I hope she proves out.

I proved this one to have something genetic going on but I'm not sure what yet. This years breed- back clutches should tell me more.

There are different types of "blackback" genes out there that do different things.
There are basic genetic blackbacks which only pass on the blackback pattern, but then there are other things out there like blushbacks which cause a lightening and improving effect. There's a black velvet and white lace which is a blackback line that has a super form also.

But as you can see with some of my babies not all will get a complete blackback (depending on the gene in play which im still unsure of) from head to tail but its still obvious they carry the gene due to the wonky pattern similarities.

I'd keep the pastel that you say ended up with a blackback just in case (to raise up) and breed that girl there to something different next time. Pick something that isn't prone to naturally having a blackback type pattern or lots of blushing. This may help you figure it out while your waiting for the pastel to get bigger for a breed back. Then maybe your next clutch will yield some results that will let you know if its worth it or not to even keep trying to prove her as something genetic.

    Good luck

Our male enchi is a blackback from a black back female.
I've yet to get babies from him to further prove it, but I have no doubt he'll throw black backs and blackback enchi's like himself

I have a black back cinnie that I bred to a black back captive hatched female. When I get to a computer, I'll post pictures. All of their offspring are black back.

I feel confident stating the offspring are genetic black backs.

Whether that comes from mom or dad or both, I don't know. I keep breeding the cinnie to this female because the black back cinnie are insane with connected floating patterns.

Louis Kirkland has a male "normal" black back from one of the clutches. Not sure if he's bred him yet.
