I did find one mite on him. The Provent a mite just arrived yesterday. Now should I treat the cage with it? Or just do a full cleanout? Or both, in what order?
Sounds like improper husbandry was this guys downfall....for the mites I would treat every enclosure you have for the sake of your other snakes. I would totally clean out and sanitize all tubs/tanks/bowls/decor etc and treat the enclosures and substrate with the PAM as directed on the can (don't spray the PAM directly on any snakes). If he had mites I wouldn't doubt that your others will have/do have them too (especially if you had them housed together or closely together).
I know rainbow bridge isn't the right place for this but I'm gonna ask some questions:
1. Where did you get the snake from? They don't just starve to death in 4 weeks, and any reputable breeder isn't going to sell you a hatchling that hasn't already started eating.
2. Can you very descriptively give me a run down on your setup/husbandry? I already know it was wrong, but did you try to compensate for having 2 snakes in the same enclosure with any weird heating techniques? Like UTH on both ends because they weren't moving from hot to cold side or anything like that? I just see trying to house a BP and a Blood in the same enclosure as turning into a nightmare for both snakes since they don't exactly thrive in the same conditions.
I got that guy by mail from LLLReptile in Cali. He did appear to ha e a couple meals on him. For the first couple weeks he was alone in the 20 gal long. After speaking with breeders at the lone star reptile expo I was told that was too big an enclosure. So I sectioned it in half with a 75 watt red bulb above the divider and a small uth regulated by tstat to around 90 beneath the divider. Temps were around 78-88. The blood hardly moved around. Stayed mostly in the cool side. Saw him drink once or twice but he never soaked. About 2 inches of cypress/coconut substrate for burrowing, which he did a couple times. 50-60% humidity. I misted the blood side more since they need a bit more humidity. And had 3 sides blacked of his half blacked out. The couple times I held bin he was active and flicking. Seemed fine other than the food refusal.
