what could have happened?
got a shipment of mealworms in today. all alive. so i set them up as usual...5 hours later there all DEAD. the only thing i did differently is i used a beet instead of a corrot for their liquid because thats the only veggie i had. could that have killed 1000 mealworms??

Never used beets before as hydration for feeder insects so I really can't help there. Hopefully someone else can chime in. How are the temps over there and where did you leave them? Maybe the beet has some pesticide or something of that sort. Was it washed properly?

Then make use of it!! Keep them all in a shallow tub with oatmeal bedding and potato chunks for water.. After the beetles die, pick them all out and just wait....
I'd keep putting potato chunks in there with a lid loosely on the tub for moisture/humidity. After another long while you should have tons of mini mealies!

Mealworms are the larvae of the beetle..they just have matured. They can breed now if you keep the box a little warm, you can have a supply so I've heard..
