Using PAM
Hello, I have a quick question... some people said that it is okay to spray PAM (proven a mite) directly onto the tub while some say that PAM should only be sprayed on a substrate. If I'm using paper towel, should I spray PAM onto the paper towel?
Thoughts?

I spray it onto the paper towel and tub, just make sure it dries completely before putting the snake back. And make sure the water bowl is not in there when u spray...

I only spray the tub and not the paper substrate. Its worked fine for me. When I bought a mite infested snake, the mites disappeared the day after treating only the tub.

make sure you also remove the water, all decor/hides, and the inhabitant as well. spray sparingly as instructed on the label directly onto the substrate (regardless of what it is), allow it to dry entirely, and replace all of the above.

Are mites really that common? Should I be worried about my little guy getting them....or is it something they normally "come home" with from a breeder or petstore?

Depends on the area, some places they do seem to be common and others not at all. Our community where I am I have only seen mites once in the past 4 years. P-A-M is best sprayed outside it isn't very good for you to breath either.

Re: Using PAM
I spray the P-A-M directly onto the tub and let it completely dry. Once completely dry, I put in my substrate. I also do not give them water for 48hours in their tubs in order for the PAM to completely cure into the tub. Sounds a little weird, but water destroys all the effects of PAM. Good luck!

P-A-M is made with water, water does not effect the product, It should never be in water a snake (or anything else) might drink!! NEVER forget it is based on a toxin used to kill brown snakes on Guam.

Re: Using PAM
I realize that PAM is water based and not a solvent based product. Just wanted to make sure that the PAM was completely dry before putting the animal back in. As far as not watering in their tubs for 48 hours, this is something I do because of advice I have received in the past from several local keepers. This may not be completely right, but has worked well for me anytime that I have had to use it. Just my opinion.
