If any of you get FOX 25, there's gonna be something on about a 7 foot snake attacking some woman. The show starts at 10... I'll let you all know the details after I watch it. Just a heads up in case anyone else lives around here and gets this local news. I hope this isn't grossly exaggerated...

Let us know what happens, for those of us who are too far away to get the broadcast.
3.1.1 BP (Snyder, Hanover, Bo Peep, Sir NAITF, Eve), 1.2.3 Rhacodactylus ciliatus (Sandiego, Carmen, Scooby, Camo, BABIES ), 1.0 Chow (Buddha), 0.2 cats (Jezebel, PCBH "Nanners"), 0.3 humans

K, here's the story -- It was a 7 foot Burmese who bit his owner on the wrist because she smelled like a rat. He wrapped around her legs and her son called the police because he didn't know what to do. It took three people to get the snake off. Luckily the woman blames herself for hand feeding him, she's been bitten once before (she's had him 3.5 years). The police wanted to have the snake put down but she refused to let them take it. She said she'll donate him to a zoo if he bites again... the snake was housed in a large wire bird cage, but looked very healthy. I'm glad the owner took the blame... but someone needs to buy that woman a set of tongs!

Yup. The kid should be taught what to do in case of future incidents.

No kiddin'.
Stuff like this getting in the news is terrible for the herp community... the public doesn't listen to the part about it being the keeper's fault :x

No, of course they don't, because they're not educated enough about herps to know. But it's like keeping a gun in the house-- if you're going to do it, then the other people in the house need to be educated about the risks and what to do if something goes wrong.

My sentiments exactly, Kara.
Marla, you said it very well. It's unimaginable that a woman would keep a snake like that, but not bother to learn how to get it off if it bites and wraps, and not teach everyone else in the house as well. And for all that I'm glad she's not one to overreact and put the snake down simply for being a snake...it also doesn't seem to me like she learned a single thing from the incident.
A birdcage?!?!?
