    What wattage bulb

Hey guys, im getting a hatchling bp and plan on housing it in a 10gallon tank till it grows a bit, i will have a UTH as well as a lamp because i know the uth alone wont keep the tank warm enough, what watt bulb do you think would be best to keep the tank warm enough without frying the little guy? thanks!

You can't always tell what wattage you would need. It varies. Although how cold is the room you will be keeping your Bp in?

x2 to this ^. Have you looked at ceramic heat emitters? When I had my animals in tanks, before my addiction really set in and I switched to tubs and racks, I used those (heat emitters) in lieu of bulbs/lamps. They lasted longer than bulbs, seemed to be more consistent in their heat with less fluctuation and while they were a little more expensive, they also did emit light and disrupt the photo periods for my animals. Just a thought, otherwise it will all depend on how cool the room is.

In a room that stays around 68 to 70 i have a 10 gallon for my hoggy. No uth just bulbs. With sixty watt bulbs the surface will be in the mid to high 80's through the day. I do use lamp stands so the fixture is not sitting on the screen. It has about an 1 to 2 inch standoff.

You may want to get a 50 or 60 watt and put them on a dimmer to see which works best. This way you could really dial it in.

    Re: What wattage bulb

I use Exo-terra 75watt red bulbs on my 10 and my 20 gallon terrariums. Since they're red I run them 24 hrs. This keeps my my temps right around 90 hot/80 cool. I also have them on adjustable lamp stands so if my temp is a little high or low I just raise or lower the lamp to control the temp. So it acts like a dimmer switch or rheostat. Also I can swing the light away or not have to move it at all move to open my screen tops. It's a convenience that is worth the 15$ for the lamp stand.
