    Rugged Camera Options

Looking for a decent, tough, all purpose camera to take along on my outdoor trips. Waterproof is a must as I spend a fair amount of time on and around the local rivers. I know little to nothing about cameras but I need something that will occasionally get dropped in some mud, rained on or float a ways down some rapids. I'm not looking to spend a great deal but could go maybe $400-500 unless something just as good can be got for less. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

Dang, I will have to go dig it out. I have a Cannon, that is "shock" resistant to a point, and water proof to 5 feet. I got it because I like to keep a camera in my purse, as we are outdoors a lot, and at the beach and river, and I worry about dropping it in. It takes ok pictures, but I would much rather have a "nice" camera. I am hoping to get a nice one for Christmas. I will find exact model number and get back to you.
