    When to get FedEx Certified?

I plan on pairing my ball pythons next fall and my corns the following spring. I should HOPEFULLY have babies by the summer of 2014. That said, I already have a website in the works and I'm already PayPal verified. I want to get FedEx Certified so I can ship when I post classifies here, on Fauna, Kingsnake, or on iHerp. When would be the best time to try and get certified to ship? I want to make sure I'm good to go whenever I do have babies that are ready to go. Also, what are some good tips for shipping your first reptile? I know I'm terrified that I'll do something wrong and my snake won't make it to it's new owner!

You can get fedex certified anytime and it can take a couple of weeks. I would get it out of the way

My tip would be to use Ship Your Reptiles instead. Their service comes with several advantages that you can't get shipping yourself.

Re: When to get FedEx Certified?

Although I use SYR, I am also Fedex certified. I feel that the certification process, as tedious as it was, helped me get prepared for when I started shipping. Yes, Ship Your Reptiles is easy to use, but getting certified will give you a deeper understanding of what you need to do to properly pack your animals (aka good practice!). As mentioned above, it can take a while, so just take care of it sometime over the winter. Avoid Christmas, though, or you wait could get longer or your test package lost in all the holiday mail traffic.

    Thank you everyone!

Another quick question about SYR lovers/users. What makes it so good? I guess I'm just hesitant to use it because I don't know a lot a bout it.

1# The customer service, I would rather deal with SYR in case of an issue than Fedex itself (been there done that)

2# Prices because of their volume the discount is greater than the one a small breeder gets with their own Fedex account.

3# Ability to ship door to door which your contract with Fedex (if you are certified) does not allow you to do even though people who are certified do it, your certification only allow you to ship business to business in other word hub to hub.

4# Insurance coverage which is not offered by Fedex either however SYR offer great insurance coverage.

But like Anna said getting your certification is a good idea it will be good training and it's always a great backup to have just in case, I am also Fedex certified however I have been a SYR customer since the start.

    Hope this helps.

And no I am not a SYR rep

Re: When to get FedEx Certified?

I'll have to look into SYR. I just hadn't heard about it until earlier this summer. I've always dealt with people who are FedEx certified. I'll probably at least get FedEx Certified to get the practice in because I want to be 110% prepared when I need t ship animals so they arrive healthy and happy!

I like SYR so much, I see no reason to become FedEX certified. SYR's discounts alone make using them a better source for me.

I've shipped for several years and use nothing but SYR and will continue to.
