So I had Nanners out today to clean his cage and I was holding all humongus 14 inches of him lol, and my wife was sitting next to me she startled him and he coiled up and started wriggling the end of his tail like a rattler. I started laughing my head off because here is this baby Cali King acting like a rattler and like he is all tough. Is this normal for a cali king or a colubrid in general for that matter? Cause I know I would really laugh hysterically if Bob (BP) were to do that.

    Baby rattler wannabe?

very normal for a cali king. They do that when they go into defense mode. I was handling a few of them last year. And one bit me and raised his tail like a rattler and was shaking it.

Yeah, Callie does the rattletail thing, too, normally right before she musks all over me!

That's all SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for most colubrids. My gopher looks CRAZY when he goes into "Rattler" mode...it's quite intimidating, even when I know better!

The funny thing about this guy is that he loves to musk and crap on my hubby when ever he gets him out. He is a cute little snake, I am glad I don't hold him yet. He is very intimidating, not.
