How to/should I clean sphagnum moss...?

Indy is in the early stages of her second shed with me. Last time I wasn't around and had assigned my mo to mist the cage and keep the towel wet.. she still had a shed in pieces. Today I got some moss to maybe help a little this time. There is dirt and a few leaves in it. Should I freeze it? Sift it? Help!

    Ahoy!

I'm by no means an expert on sphagnum moss, but my wife uses it with her geckos from time to time and she has a little process...

She tosses the moss is a strainer and rinses it clean of debris then she dunks it in boiling hot water for a couple of minutes. After that she rings it out and its good to go.

I doubt that dirt and/or leaves are going to hurt your BP, but the process above sounds good, too.
