I'm not sure about that, I use PVC enclosures. I found the money you put in to DIY enclosures, by the time you get everything right with heat and such you usually end up spending just as much money as a nice already put together and heated PVC enclosure...

I have a DIY melamine enclosure that my bf made for me and it cost way less than a "professional" one and is perfect and very solid (not very heavy too). The thermostat I got for it cost more than the materials for the viv did. I'll be continuing to use all home-made vivs for my snakes.

Hubby made my Boa 'condos' out of birch plywood from Home Depot

    http://www.homedepot.com/Lumber-Comp...1#.UEs2V1E8J0Q

It's super light weight and sturdy and we can easily carry a 4' x 2' x2' house around when necessary.

He used Lexan and/or 3/8" thick plexi for the sliding doors and PVC panels for the floor.

There's a 3/4" gap under the PVC floor where the heating cord goes and the Boas seem to love them.

He put a secondary full length deck so they can go up and lounge whenever they want.

    They also have climbing branches.

All told, I think it was a tad over $100 for each condo.

He also mounted a 7' tree trunk in the bedroom so they can come out and climb around and "be a real snake" for exercise.

This was Dixie's, which we painted but we left the other two natural.

He made a shorter version for Alice, the bad escape art Beep.

    [we call it Alicecatraz]
