Question / Pics of snake and other animals

OK I have a rescue that was supposed to be a male and was supposed to be 7 months old when I got him. I am a new snake keeper so I only know what i have read on the internet. So I take "him" down to a reputable reptile shop here and I asked them to sex "him" and weigh him so I would know fore sure. As soon as I walk into the store the guy says "this snake isn't 8 months old" (I have had the snake for a month now). He proceeds to tell me that the snake looks to be 2-3 months old. Also he popped him and it looks to be a female . So me being the internet junkie I am, took a lot of pics for you to enjoy/weigh in on. How old do you think this snake is? I forgot to get HER weighed so I don't know hold old she is. Plus I threw a couple of pics of my pit bulls in so you could see them too! Also the guy at the store says she might be a mocha? I really have no clue...so there is a lot of pics of coloring/pattern.

I also have another question...if it is 2-3 months old how often should I feed it? I have been on a 7 day rotation since I got her. The guy at the shop said 5 days aand that I should switch from rats.

    ENJOY!

20 dollar bill for size comparison

Snakes vary. I have two ball pythons that are the same age, and same gender and there's a 1300g difference between them.

Also, I'd be feeding adult mice IMO. My tiny male is already taking adults.

There's nothing wrong with feeding mice. If you can switch to rats though you'll notice more weight gain and its much easier to feed one rat instead of 3-4 mice per feeding.

But id it is only a 2 month old an adult mouse is a little big for it. Hoppers seem to be the right size for now as they leave a bulge in her belly and they aren't too hard for her to swallow.

Now that I look again, she seems a bit thin :/ and most of the adult mice I get tend to be a bit small Ahaha

I'd go to Walmart and buy a kitchen scale. They're only like $20. Feed 10-15% of her body weight every 5-7 days.

Since I feed mice (no one eats f/t so no option of feeding rats as live ones are illegal here) I feed every 5 days. >_>

He could be that old, if they didn't feed him well, he's going to be small and skinny. I would feed him every 3 days and get him chunky. I feed my babies every 3-4 days to get them fattened up quicker. I don't like a skinny bp.

In my opinion, I would first weight the snake. Then feed him/her every 4-5 days 10-15% of it's body weight. I would do this until she reached the point where she looked plump. Once she looks nice and chunky I would switch to every 5 days until she was at least 500g. If you can get rat pups that are small enough definitely go that direction. Rats are healthier for your snake. Thicker bone density means higher amount of calcium delivered per meal. And if you can make the switch to rats now it will be easier to continue feeding rats and not end up with a mouser. Good luck
    Herps are cool.

One of the attractions of outdoor pursuits activities for many people is that life is reduced to the barest essentials, and in the process a more intimate connection to the natural world is established. Food that would be trashed or fed to the dog at home tastes wonderful, a cup of murky water is much appreciated, and after a few days, even a thin sleeping pad can feel like a comfortable mattress as tired bones are able to rest after a hard day's work.

Thats what the guy at the reptile store told me so I'm going to go with it. Any thoughts on the coloring of the snake? Mocha?

I don't know about the Mocha bit. But I would agree she needs to eat more. If in fact that is her true age, she hasn't been eating as much as I would like. However, highly possible that is her age. I would get her on rats, feed a rat pup/pink what ever is the same size as her widest part, also maybe every 5 days.
