    Feeding frenzy?

Is this the time of year when my snakes all become gluttonous pigs?

They're eating their usual food and begging for seconds and sometimes, thirds...especially the girls.
[two of which have been in the "Food. Meh." mode for a couple of weeks]

Friday was their normal feeding day and last night, I was getting "The Face" from several of them again so I gave them some food a little while ago and they ate like they hadn't seen chow in weeks.

    [is this a good thing?]

This is approaching the time of year when breeding females start to want to eat more so they can produce healthy eggs in the spring.
Most of our snakes are eating ravenously already

    Aha.

    Thank you.

I thought they'd all just gone mad.

Kelly, who's not even a year old yet and already 1200+ grams/3'+ would eat every single day if I let her.

Is it weird for a girl to grow that fast?

She's not being overfed or 'speed fed' [or whatever it's called]...she just seems to get much bigger every week.

She kinda freaks me out when I check her tub for maintenance...she's all "Fwooop! Here I am! Got FOOD?!?" and if I don't be careful and poke her out of feeding mode, she's eventually gonna nail me, thinking my hand is supper.

    Re: Feeding frenzy?

Yep, with the higher ambient temps in most households, most snakes of all species are readily eating like little pigs. I know here in Southern California, most homes are at 78 to 82 degrees even with the AC on. Perfect reptile ambient temperatures!

Once the average household temps start dropping in fall, the feeding response usually starts to go down. This is a great time to get weight back on females that bred last year, and to get smaller girls up to size.

my two adopted girls ate two mice each. (25-30gram total each). When I got them, they were both really under fed, and under weight. Right now, I am on a 3 day feeding schedule for them, as they need the nutrients that they have missed. I'm happy they are eating machines.
