    Holy crap he ate it!!!!!

He ate it! A F/T rat pup! His first F/T meal in the months that I've had him!

*insert Hallelujah angel choir music here*

Woohoo! No more 45 min trips to the pet store! No more mice in the basement!

After watching how he reacted last time to me trying to fake him out with live mouse vs. warmed-up dead rat pup and the wonderful responses here I figured maybe I just wasn't getting the damned thing hot enough. So I soaked a f/t rat pup in scalding hot water for a while, then took it out and blasted it up-close with a hair-dryer for a good 5 minutes till I was afraid he'd burn his mouth, and then offered it to him right away. He didn't take it as quickly as he does pre-killed, he sniffed it a couple of times and then struck. I was holding my breath until he got the whole thing down.

    Woohoo!

Congrats!! Back when I did f/t I had one guy who just liked them hot. They are all so quirky.

Once you figure out how to present the F/T rat and the proper way to heat. It is a very good feeling not having to worry about the snakes eating anymore, or where the next live rat is coming from. I have been there, but now every ball python I own is on F/T rats. It is a huge relief once you get that.

My corn is like this too. She'll eat her F/T if it's just warm. But if it's hot? She'll strike so hard it nearly pops the darn mouse!

This weekend I'm picking up a young BP that's showing signs of not wanting F/T. So I'm hoping to try this trick with him and get him switched over too.

But really, we all like a nice hot meal compared to a luke warm one

Hah, some like it hot. I figured toasting the mouse to a nice normal body temp would be good enough for him. Guess not! So that puts him down as an eater of only dark-colored, super-heated rodents. I should count my lucky stars he's okay with rats! Hahaha
