Can snakes get aberrant markings the same way people get moles, beauty marks, freckles etc? I asked about this mark on her nose earlier but didn't have any decent pix but now I have a couple:

    My snake has a mole!?

    Neph's beauty mark?

The mark looks like a burn injury to me...but I'm about as far from an expert as one can get, so I really can't say what it might be. I'd be interested in what it does over several shed cycles. However...I CAN say what cool pictures those are! Just look at those eyes and markings...wow!! Is Neph starting a shed in the second picture or is it just different lighting?

    Appreciate the reply, Judy, thanks.

This will be her second shed upcoming. Her first was fairly effortles. There was about 5 days between the pics. When we forst got her the mark was much blacker and shinier but she and it were so small it escaped first inspection. She's perfectly healthy and eats well so I'm not overly concerned but it will definitely be interesting to watch and see if it fades further with this next shed.

    Moved to Giant Python forum.
Don't know what to tell you about the mark.....doesn't look like anything too serious, as far as I can tell. I bet it'll fade with the shed.

it could just be part of the pattern. unless theres a bump there too. if its a bump then it might be a nose rub but its more likely to be a burn if it is a bump.

Cool - thanks for the reassurance. And the move since Giant is indeed where she's headed.

Almost all the rocks i have seen have some sort of labial markings fromt the usually symmetrical moss-green/ochre markings coming down on the upper lips and the black "false teeth" lines on the lower. Since I had to pick up a pinkie rat for the plated lizard I stopped by the place I picked Neph up and checked out some of thier new critters. A couple of thier balls and one of thier Burmese had burn marks from the ceramic emitters and bulbs they have inside the cases. Most of these were on thier backs near the spine but judging from the frequency they shift thier "stock" from display to display it wouldn't be hard to imagine them bumping around in a different setting.

And here, beaglegod I will swap out my avatar for ya

EDIT: ok got a warm fuzzy one for ya - name that angry samurai rabbit.
