‘Bones’ to Air Episode about Keeping Exotic Animals as Pets

    http://www.ecorazzi.com/2012/07/26/b...imals-as-pets/

FOX’s popular forensic anthropologist/FBI thriller “Bones” starring Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz is planning an episode about the issues behind keeping exotic animals as pets in Season 8, Vegetarian Star reports.

Stephen Nathan, executive producer of the hit series, revealed to TVLine his plans to craft an episode around the topic. “It’s a story about smuggling endangered species into the states as pets. In fact, what is horrifying is that there are more tigers as pets in Texas than there are in the wild. So we’re doing a story about animal smuggling that takes place in one of those pet expos.”

Deschanel, who plays “Bones” aka Brennan on the show, will surely take kindly to this episode as she is a huge animal advocate and vegan. She has stuck to her guns when it comes to not eating meat and protecting animals. In April, she was even honored for her farm animal advocacy by Mercy for Animals.

“Bones” previously did an episode about chicken farming, which really affected the fans and made Deschanel happy, “When someone tells me they stopped eating chicken because of the ‘Bones’ factory farming episode we did last year, I consider that a small victory.”

No word on when the episode will air, but be sure to tune in and watch the Season 8 premiere on September 17 at 8 p.m. EST.
I love this show, but I have a funny feeling I'm going to hate it after I see this episode.
    -Hanna :)

Oh boy. As long as they stick to the illegal side of things (tigers and large cats alone could make for a perfectly decent episode), I'll be okay. I really like the show, so I hope they just go with the actually-horrifying side of things, and not "Oh my god this wild-caught (ball) python ate its owner whole!"

They had an episode with a ball python in the past. I'm hoping they'll just stick with illegal smuggling, poaching and other sorts of atrocities.

Re: ‘Bones’ to Air Episode about Keeping Exotic Animals as Pets

Smuggling endangered species (particularly big cats) is a huge problem, and I think a hit TV show bringing the problem to light could be a good thing. As long as they don't harp on legally purchased, properly-cared for exotics, that is, but I'm not too worried. The writers on that show do a pretty good job of backing up all the information on the show and presenting controversial topics objectively; after all, they aren't Animal Planet.

Well, they're decent compared to other shows, like CSI and X-Files
but as for some of the medical stuff.. well some of it's far from the trust

    For example:
they said in one episode that humans go insane if they eat human flesh
and you can die from a broken nose

I know there's more, most of their stuff is pretty accurate, but some of the stuff is laughable.

You can die from a broken nose. If you get hit right then the septum (i think its called that) gets jammed up right into your brain. Before you die you crap your pants too supposedly lol.
