Any computer savvy folks around to help with an annoying problem?
I just got a brand new desktop computer the other day. I don't know the specs (not my thing) but it's a PC running Windows 7. It's been experiencing random Blue Screens of Death since we set it up. My husband thinks he knows what's causing it, but hasn't had time to mess with it. (Been traveling out of town) It's infrequent enough that I can live with it, and just save documents frequently. It happens maybe 1-2 times a day...and it doesn't seem to be any particular activity causing it. (It even happened once in the night when the computer was supposed to be "asleep".)
ANYhow...that isn't what I'm looking for help with.
Here is my immediate annoyance.
I was installing a game. (As if I have time to play...but I can dream, can't I?) When the install is about 2/3 finished, I get the damned blue screen. After the reboot, I try to continue the install. I can't do anything with it. When I put the game disc in, it just gives me the "play" menu. I obviously can't play a game that is only 2/3 installed. But the "install" prompt is now gone. I figured I'd UNinstall everything that was done and start over....only, apparently, that isn't an option either. The "uninstall" button on the play menu is grayed out. And in my computer control panel, the game isn't even listed, so there's nothing to click on to tell it to uninstall.
I can't play, I can't install, I can't uninstall. How the heck am I supposed to fix this?

Is the computer new? If so I would bring it back and get a replacement! Otherwise your going to have to restore the computer to remove the game.

Agreed.. if this is a brand new computer, you should bring it back and get one that isn't doomed.

Well, "bringing it back" isn't as simple as running over to Best Buy on the corner. It was shipped. I agree that if the blue screen issue can't be fixed, then the whole thing will have to go back and I'll have to start over. (Ugh!) But I'm HOPEful my hubby can fix it. He just can't get to it right away.
I was hoping there'd be some answer to this immediate problem like, "Open such-n-such folder and delete such-n-such file" ......

Call the company and get them to pay to have is shipped back and a new one too you. If you wait too long they will do nothing!

"death" screens are not an easy fix. I am sorry I offended you, I was trying to help. Just wanted to let you know you have a small window to ship back or your stuck with it. If it came with the blue screen you will not be able to fix it. That's all I was saying, have a great ay. I'm out!

Try updating all the drivers.
Also, find the folder the game is installed into, on your local drive. There may be an uninstall program in there. It will probably be listed under the name of the company that made the game. If there is no uninstall program in the folder, then delete the folder, and see if that works.
Hubby does computer repair, and gives thumbs up to these suggestions.

Best bet is to do a system restore to a date before you attempted the install of the game. If you use the search function in the control panel section and type "System Restore" it will provide a link on the left that you can click on.

What Ryl said could also work--you would have to reinstall anything you put in after the restore date you pick.
Update the drivers after that, if you're going to try the restore.
