    Hide?

At what size do you take the hide box out of a red tails set up? Just wondering if there is a general rule?

Ours is still small, so I don't know. But we are building a nice customer enclosure, and plan to have a hide he can fit in, in there. I have heard people use cat litter boxes, so maybe they don't all take them out.

    Re: Hide?

Having a hide won't hurt anything.
If you don't have a hide or 2 with your snake, you might see it more. LOL

I only have one hide in my boa's tank, and half the time she doesn't use it. She will though if she's shedding, and since they're cardboard box tops (the kind that printer paper comes in) she pushes them around to wherever she likes, or lays on them, or flips them over. I think it's a good idea to have at least something in there for when they want to hide out for a bit.

Mines just hide under the paper if they want to hide. My Colombian and female Nic rarely hide.

I have a hide in the custom tank I made for my red tail "Max" I made a fake tree trunk with a extra strong limb for him to come out on and drape himself on as well as other branches. I made the hide in the corner of the tank so I can move a blind and I can see in the hide from the side to make sure all is ok.

When I had a normal tank "Max" didn't use the hide as much, but now that he has the custom tree hide is hangs out in it and on the branch just like he would do in the wild.

There isn't much of a rule. We are actually reusing hides from when our beeper was a little guy. Here in a couple of months we may need to size up because one is too small. If he can't fit in a hide he does this...

Ange'... A wife and a mom to seven trouble makers

2.1 munchkins , 0.1 cat "Shadow" MIA , 0.1 sun conure "Sunshine", 1.0 normal '10 BP "Julius", and 1.0 BCCxBCI '11 RTB "Ranjan"

when there small i offer a hide but when they get quite large i dont. I dont think its really needed for a larger boa as they arnt shy like the bps.
