I know this is gonna sound rediculous but, my 5 month old little guy "Plissken" just sits in the middle of his PVC pipe he comes out late at night when everything is dark. Should I even turn the lights on in the room to look at him or is it best to keep the door shut and not even sit and watch.
I caught him poking his head out at one point, but when I came in the room and turned the lights on he went back in the pipe.So that got me wondering.

Should I even Look at Him!
It is ok to disturb them a little during the day. I just let mine hide almost all day and when i get off work i get him out and play with him in the afternoon. Then i put him back in his tank and he goes back to his hide. When i turn off the lights and turn on the blacklight he comes right out and explores!! He will hide almost all the time as long as the lights are on... unless he is really hungry or thirsty.

Centipedes..
YEP he hides in a piece of pvc pipe that runs along the back of the enclosure it allows him to go from one end to the other without being seen if he wants to.and of course there are 2 hides one on each end as well

If you want to be able to watch him at night, get a blacklight or UV light because that won't disturb his light cycles. Then if you're pretty still, he'll get used to your watching him.
By the way, thanks for the pvc pipe idea. I hadn't been able to find hides for Hanover that made him happy yet, so I stopped after work yesterday at Lowe's and found a 3" pvc wye and a 3" pvc ell for him (which only came to $5.40). I'm going to clean them up when I go home from work today and see how he likes them.

The only drawback to the PVC pipes is that if it is a snug fit, you'll have a lot of trouble getting the snake out if you ever need to. I once tried a paper-towel tube for Caesar (cape gopher) and he loved it...slithered in and curled up right in the center. I had to get him out one day and he wouldn't come out of that tube for anything. I ended up tearing the tube to get to him. (Something you can't do with PVC!) Fortunately, he didn't freak out at the disturbance...he was just being stubborn. Since then, I've stuck to hides that I can safely lift off of him.

Judy, I don't know what he has, but I got Hanover 3" pieces and I doubt they will ever be a tight fit. You have a good point, though, which is why I didn't get snugger pieces or pipe lengths.
