Raccoon Update

Well, they've switched fully to solid food now and are jumping all over the place. Today was the first trip out to the woods and to our surprise, though they stayed close, they both did plenty of exploring on their own. Randy, the one who's been climbing us constantly, wasn't so sure about climbing trees but found he loves the creek. Jess, the little girl, was going up and down trees like a squirrel which scared my husband the first time she went out of arms reach. Luckily, at this age, all it takes is to walk away and she came right back down to follow us. If they keep this up, they'll be ready for release come early August. Here are some pics of their outing. i always found raccoons to be cool little animals they seem so smart once they are used to people. i bet it will be hard to release them

Phillip from my work is doing well too. Ive seen her in the dumpster almost every nite since talking to you about her a little while back lol!

Lol Mike , you named her? That's cool.

Those little guys grew! I never knew they would bond like that, and just come back to you. Pretty neat.

Lol! Grow and get bigger are understatements. They've put on a couple pounds each since the first pics. They won't be that hard to release though, JaGv. They'll be around 15-20 lbs when we do the final release in August and by then, they will have more than tried my patience. Think of them like toddlers with 4 hands and teeth that you can't reason with. Right now, they are still small enough to scruff and scold but once they get to juvenile size, we won't be handling them hardly at all. Also, they will follow only me and my husband because to them, we're mom. Out in the wild, they follow in a line behind their mother until they are almost grown and sometimes will stay with her through their first winter. If they get too far behind, mom will chitter and they'll scamper to catch up. As they get bigger, they'll explore out further and further and then one day, it will get to the point where they won't want to come in and that's a good day. By then, they will actually have learned to be wary of all people, including us, though my husband holds out hope he'll be able to pet and play with them as adults. He'll have to learn the hard way when his wrestle buddy (Randy) doesn't come running to him.
Mike, I'm glad you named her and do you have any pics? Seems like you might have gotten over some of your fear.

Well my brother, who works w/ me, named him Phillip. When we figured out she was a girl we decided to keep the name. Im not really afraid at all anymore bc i realized im alot bigger than her haha. Also we have a mutual dislike of one another.

Sorry no pics. Im not allowed to have my cell on me at work bc apparently texting is a huge problem but going out for smoke breaks every 15min is ok since my boss is a smoker. Sooooo stupid.
