    Chip in Your BP?

Has anyone gotten a chip put in their BP so it can be identified if lost or stolen? What's it like? Is it worth it? Does it bother the BP? My vet will do it for $45. What do you think?

I doubt that it is worth it... The only time I could see it being useful is if the snake is stolen and found.

If the snake gets out and somebody else finds it Unfortunatly I think the last thing they would think of is seeing if it had a chip.

I'm a big proponent of microchiping in cats and dogs... But reptiles don't seem worth it.

I would if the chip had gps capabilities with constant updates. Other than that. Not worth it.

GPS devices are too large and put out too much radiation to be implanted. You can get GPS devices for pets to wear, but I don't think they will work well on a snake lol.

Thanks... You're all probably right. Might as well save my money. It would probably upset them anyway.

It wouldn't be worth the money but the snake would likely not even notice it. I've done some ecology work with radiotransmitters in timber rattlesnakes. Their x-mitters put out a beep that we could pick up from a quarter of a mile away with an antenna, at which point we would follow the beeps until we found (most of the time) the snake. If our TRs still lived normal lives in the wild then I'm sure your ball in an aquarium/viv would be just fine.

if I had a extremely expensive animal 10k or up, maybe I would consider it. Doesn't seem worth it with only a couple k invested in a collection.

I can't see it being worth it. For one, how often do snakes get lost? For two, I doubt if anyone who saw a loose snake would check for a microchip. Most people would probably just freak out.

if i was a big breeder and had a few snakes that were one of a kind or really rare and worth like 20K+ then i would definetly do it. That way if they were stolen and i saw snakes for sale that i thought were mine i would be able to prove they were mine. It'd be a long shot, but $45 for a $20K investment seems worth it.

If they had gps capabilities then i would get them in all my snakes so if i ever had any escapees i wouldnt have to rip apart my house looking for them lol.
