she is in a 10 gallon basking spot 87 cool side 75. I have never tried live, and I doubt I ever will. She has never shown interest in unscented, and she originally got started on tuna, but now will not eat it. What I do is thaw the mouse, soak in tuna for an hour or so, when she smells it and starts searching, I dangle it from the tongs in front of her. All that she has done is hiss and run. I have tried scented in the paper bag, and I have left the mouse in the cage. She doesn't look like she has lost much weight. I am not sure of her age, but she is probably a yearling born last colubrid season. I got her three months ago, and she has only taken 4 meals with me. What should be my next action? Is it time to assist?

I could be a couple of possibilities. It could be that the heat isn't correct. Most keepers prefer using belly heat rather than a lamp with good result. Western hogs also like it hotter than many other colubrids. A hot spot in the low 90s could stimulate her appetite. I've seen myself the difference a degree or two can make to their appetites.

Are you warming the thawed mouse? If not, warming the mouse before scenting may help. So warm the mouse, dip it's face in the tuna juice and then feed immediately.

If that doesn't work you could try scenting with frog or toad. You could even give turtle food/pellets a try.

You could also be scaring her with the tongs. You could also try lay it in front of her and just moving away and giving her privacy.
