    Am I The Only One?

I was reminded yesterday that I just can't stand the sound of my own voice played back to me. I know everyone around is obviously ok with my voice. But I sound so bad to me.

The most annoying thing is than when I hear myself played back I hear the awful southern accent that I never hear when I am talking.

Anyone else annoyed by the sound of their own voice.

Part of my job requires me to record phone calls and transcribe them back into a database.

At first I was really bothered by it and just felt my self esteem smashed every time I listened. No idea why...

Now I laugh and joke about how stoned I sound all the time. I guess it's just one of those things you have to get used to.

Re: Am I The Only One?

I thought I was the only one!

I've had a very deep voice since 7th grade, deeper than most men. (I don't see [in this case hear ] it though, because it's my own voice) And just having it played back to me emphasizes the point even more, which quite often annoys me. Has to be one of my top flaws and dislikes.

Yes! I agree, when I used to travel for training presentations I had a pre-recorded audio session that I played to my classes, ugh.... I HATED EVERY SECOND OF IT! lol

I also hate hearing my voice, especially when it's a candid video or something and I'm totally unaware of how I sound... it's awful. I don't know how anyone stands to be around me.

Re: Am I The Only One?

I absolutely hate the way my voice sounds when I am watching a video of myself or listening to my voice when it has been recorded. It doesn't even sound like me!

Me too! But I believe that it happens to most of people. It's even somehow explained by medical people n stuff...We hear ourselves in a different way, so it's OK to be slightly irritated by your own voice!

When I see video of myself, I always wonder why Robin William's voice is coming out of my mouth...
