Odd-eye is caused by the high white gene, again if it's recessive trait you're fine, if you get mega colon then you know to cull the line because it's going to cause more mega colon.
No issues with mega colon in the colony so far. I'll definitely keep an eye out. Thanks!
I'm not convinced that there is a link between high white colored rats and megacolon.
Our focus is on high white color variaties. Has been for almost 20 years now. We have odd eyes show up every few litters.
Yet never had a case of megacolon.
Another breeder told me it is genetic; that makes sense. That is how MC works in humans too. Since MC shows up in rats that have no HWhite, and especially those that don't come from a background of HW this bears consideration.
I am glad to see several others have raised HW with no cases of MC either. Very interesting.
