    Transfer from Tank to Tub?

Hey guys last question for the day.. Just doing my banking and budgeting for the next few months and I ran into a few issues:

My 3 year old, previously underfed, female normal is being kept in a 20 gal right now, conditions are perfect I must say. Her sheds are amazing for being in a tank and she eats 10% every 7 days no problem. In fact shes my best eater. The dimension of the 20 gal are ~30 inches long by 12 inches wide and 12 inches tall (standard Zilla 20 gallon found in petsmart). She was 550-600 grams when I got her in October and shes pushing 1000 grams now. My question is: how much longer is it OK to keep her in the 20 gallon for?

For my breeding plans, I plan on getting two more racks at least. One 30 quart and one CB70 rack. Eventually she will be moved into the CB70 rack. However, I wont be able to afford one for another few months. My black pastel is pushing 600 grams now and I need to move her into a new rack (shes in the 12qt hatchling rack seen below) and I was planning on buying the 30 quart rack soon.

The 30 quart racks will use IRIS tubs, and the tub dimensions are 16 1/8" x 23 3/4" x 6". What do you guys think about moving my normal girl into the 30 quart tub? When do you guys normally move your females into the bigger 41 quart or CB70 tubs? And if I do move my normal girl into a tub, do I give her 7 days of privacy as if she was a new arrival?

    My messy setup right now:

I think your 20 gal is still ok for now. If you're really worrying about it, you can put her in a temporary tub separate from the rack. Like an individual standing tub.

Well, I personally put snakes between 500-2000 g in 28/32 qt tubs.
    Anything larger goes into 41qt.

And about moving your normal girl, I think it really depends on the individual. It's a good idea to give her some time to adjust. When I move snakes, I tend not to bother the ones that stress easily. However, if it's a more social one, sometimes I don't follow that rule.

I wouldn't think twice about moving that normal into the rack. Everything about it should be superior I highly doubt she will care as much as you will.

    Regards,

Re: Transfer from Tank to Tub?

We recently moved ours into tubs. 300-400 gram snakes into 41 QT steralites, with two reptile basic hides. The move was flawless. They were all established snakes here. We left them be for 3 days until feed day. Everyone ate without hesitation. Week later, 3 out of 5 in shed. Bumped humidity, perfect sheds. You would never know they made a transition.

4 replies and 4 different opinions, lol!

I think your female will be fine in the 20gal for a few more months. Personally, I'd leave her where she is since you have no husbandry issues until you get the CB70 rack. I'd think differently if she had problems shedding or if you had temp issues, but that's not the case. Why fix it if it ain't broke?? Or at least, why try to fix it until you're ready? Just move her when you get the CB70. But that's just my opinion, lol....

I would keep her in the tank til you save up enough for the rack. as you said shes doing fine in it now. Most people dont move females to 41qts until theyre over 2000grams. Some keep all of their snakes in 32qt no matter their size. I recently built a rack, as a tie over until i can save up for one like you, and used all 41qt tubs. My 300gram cinny boy and 1200gram normal girl are both doing fine in it. They had zero problems with the move. And they both shed like 2 weeks after being put into the tubs too, i found that sorta peculiar lol

Re: Transfer from Tank to Tub?

Either, I think, is fine. I like giving them space, though. Of the handful of snakes I've moved into V-70s, some have only weighed about 300 grams (or less) and done fine, others were around 1000 grams before I moved them. Most moved up from smaller tubs, some from tanks.

I do, though, have a decent-sized ball in a 20gal, a female black pastel who weighs just under 2000 grams and can't handle a V-70. She would be a heavier snake today if I hadn't kept trying to move her to a tub. She has to live in a 20gal long or she freaks out. In her case, I'm all but convinced that it's not the size of the tub, it's the vibration of the rack.
