    Stuck Snake

So, Riddle decided to get himself stuck in a piece of his furniture at 2:30am today. I was asleep when I heard this flopping and the bedding shifting around loudly in his cage. I went over there and sure enough, he had caught himself in the rock decoration (which conveniently has two juvi BP-sized holes built in).

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem and he would have been able to get himself out just fine. However, he had eaten about 8 hours prior and it seemed that he was physically unable to squeeze through past his big ol' rat lump.

I tried to help him myself by picking the rock up and easing him through, but it just wasn't happening. So I dabbed some vaseline on his body and on the edges of the rock. He pretty much slid right through after that.

I'm sure he was embarrassed and annoyed but he seemed fine after that. I washed the vaseline off as best as I could and dried him off. He went right back into his hide. The whole process only lasted about 5 minutes. Needless to say, I took the rock out.

Anyone had this happen? I'm just glad I was home at the time. I think he would have been okay either way, but it was certainly an odd and uncomfortable experience for him.

Glad to hear he got out safely.
I used to have a fake plastic vine in my tank. The links of the vine chain were plastic and slightly bigger than the width of a juvy bp head lol. Well she got her head through and slid the link down her neck where it got stuck. The area was all pink but she made a full recovery. I came home from school, freaked out momentarily, then used a knife to cut it off of her. Then i threw the vine in the bonfire later that nite lol.

I personally have not, but read a thread here once about someone who did. It was one of those skull tank decorations, and I believe they had to cut it to get snake out. Glad you got your boy out ok.

I was soaking one of my hatchlings in the bathroom sink (my wife hates it but she has her own bathroom) I usually have a piece of tape to cover the over flow hole but someone had thrown it away. He sat there soaking just fine untill one of my kids asked me a question and I turned my back for just a second. I looked back and he was about a third of the way in the hole!!! I grabbed him and held on while he kept trying to go in more. I started sweating and yelled for a hammer wrench and bucket! Not even knowing what I was going to do with them. After those and some more tools arrived I realized I would have to break the sink if he got any further in. More sweating and some French. I then decided to splash some cold water on him. I guess that was enough for him because he backed out and looked at me like he wanted to bite me.

On a more serious note, this is a prime example of why ball python cage furniture should consist of hides, a water bowl, and...ah...er...yeah, that's the whole list.

The one time my snake got out he wedged himself under my 55 gallon tank with a wooden stand with a tiny gap underneath. I tried just pouring a little warm water on him which kind of worked but only his first third could squeeze back out. Had to drain the tank, take out all the fish, sand, decor, canopy, can filter and everything to get him out. Je would pick the heaviest piece of furniture to hide under
Glad your baby got out no worse for the wear.

Personally to me no I have not. I am quite careful about closed holes every opening is an open sides U shape. I have been called to rescue a friends snake that was stuck, we ended up cutting the offending hide apart.
