Re: Share Your Normals - Normals are Beautiful!
Hola, peeps. I've been keeping ball pythons for nearly ten years now. Started out rescuing and moved into breeding. I'm here to share some of the dudes and ladies I shared my life with insofar.
First is Dammit. He was the first ball python I encountered and was rescued from a high kill shelter on his last day by my brother, then gifted to me. He was also the biggest ball python I have ever personally seen. At the time of his death, he was pushing six feet and his head almost filled my palm.
Next up is Pythagoras. He was my special snake. He came from a crack house, no really, he did. He also never got any larger even with regular meals. When he died at age six he was about the size of a two year old. His vet couldn't explain it but chalked it up to early development problems or a genetic defect.
Vorenus is a five year old male, rescued from a home where he was sealed into a tank with Shy, my normal female. The tank had a pane of glass covering about 90% of the top that was fixed on with aquarium glue, rendering the tank uncleanable. Live mice were dropped in every month or so. Despite this, Vorenus is a super sweet boy and now is a fat four and a half feet long.
And finally Shy. Oh, Shy... she is what some would call a 'problem snake'. Where Vorenus seems unaffected by the trauma from his youth, Shy never recovered. She's defensively agressive much of the time, goes off feed for no apparent reason, and attacks f/t rats like they'll kill her if she doesn't kill them first. I've been bitten by her more than a dozen times over the years but I love her to death. She suffered multiple injuries from live food as a baby, leaving big dents out of her muscles along her sides. The scars have healed with time but this is definitely a ball python that lacks trust in anyone.
