    Cera sizing me up.

Don't be fooled by this face, nanoseconds after this frame was captured, Cera had the camera lens in her mouth again.

    Littlefoot popping out..

Cera almost ready to just jump out...

    Both together..

Littlefoot will tolerate light handling, but gets nervous after about 45 seconds of it.

Cera will barely let me pet her back, as long as she's busy eating.

I love updates on these little monkeys. I was at NERD last night and saw a savannah for the first time in person. Definitely the coolest looking monitor I think. I really like their boxy, muscular build. It's much more dinosaur and much less serpenty than the other monitors.

    Last night was interesting.

First thing I notice is that Littlefoot was stuck under the basking platform, so we removed the platform temporarily and found that all of the wood that has been in contact with damp soil is rotted already.

Considering I only added enough dirt to cover it a few months ago, I would estimate that exposed untreated wood that is under the soil has about 6-9 months before it becomes soft and no longer structurally sound.

    *************************************************

The next really interesting thing to happen was Cera started riding around on Littlefoot's back again, and Littlefoot jumped out of the cage with Cera on his back! as soon as they hit the floor, they seperated and started to run off. Of course Dorothy picks up littlefoot!! Yeah, leave Wayne to pick up the one that bites I picked Cera up and very quickly placed her back in the cage before she could latch on to me.

    Pictures!!!

    Deep soil moisture looks good.

The soil directly under the platform was dried out, as expected since the basking light is shining right on it.

Yes, I will be making another platform. This time I am going to seal the wood with epoxy resin before I put it in contact with the damp soil.

Thankfully, the whole bottom of the cage itself is aluminum...
