    Forest Moss vs sphagnum moss.

I called the vet today too see what I could do for my Ball Python, and he suggested sphagnum moss for her hide.. so we went to the pet shop and my dad refused to get sphagnum moss, instead he got forest moss and it stinks like swamp. I didn't want to argue with him in public but he seems to know it all (better then the vet apparently). One of the workers said he uses it for his amphibians...and my dad went right ahead and bought it. Hermosa (my ball python) refuses to go in her hide.. could it be because of the smell? Is Forest moss okay for her? :s *sigh* here is what I got : http://pet.imageg.net/graphics/produ...707750r200.jpg
not the best image but let me know please.

I haven't ever used the stuff, but I wouldn't use anything that I didn't know was on to use... especially if it smelled.

What are the temperatures and humidity levels in your tank?

Never used forest moss. I use sphagnum moss, I sprinkle some around the cage and stick some in the hides. I mist twice a day and have a humidifier hooked up to a timer to mist when I'm not home. I don't think it smells like much...wet plant maybe. My humidity is between 40-60 depending on the time of day. You don't need to soak the moss to keep your humidity up, it "slow releases" it into the air with just a light misting. Also did your dad not get the sphagnum moss because its so expensive? You really don't need a ton of it in the tank. It fluffs out when you break it off from the original brick

I use sphagnum moss in my tanks, Every 3 or 4 days I soak it, then I mist it in between and will keep it 2 or 3 cleanings depending on the looks and smell of it.
