    Home Coming

So I'm proud to say I'm getting my second addation to my family tomorrow a very clean bitter ball male. I'm excited. As I already have one male and am looking to get two more this spring from my local breeder, I'm very much looking into a solid tub/small rack system. I looked at the sticky tub set up and will most likely follow that. I just have a couple questions so i can get everything ready before I get him. One can I use plastic shelves that i get from like Walmart? Or the wooden ones? Or would this be a fire hazard? Also as i will be using an uth, what can i do for the ambient temps? Since a heat lamp I'm guessing would not work...

Thanks for the replies in advance.

First of all, welcome to bp.net and congrats on your soon-to-be new additions! It's always exciting getting new snakes! You'll definitely have to post pics once you get them!

You could use either one. The plastic shelves are much lighter and the "Frugal Herpers Snake Rack" sticky is a great design. I ended up making my small rack out of plywood and even though it's heavier it feels more solid to me and I love it. As long as you have a good thermostat and don't overload any outlets it shouldn't be a fire hazard.

For ambient temps with a rack, it's usually best to have a room that can be maintained at ~80, or you can hook up a space heater that has a built-in thermostat.

I really like the idea of glass tanks, and sense I'm only going to have a few, until I have room to have a snake room. I really want to stay away from bulbs as my experience is its hard to keep the humity up with bulbs. Can i use two seperate uth? Hooked up to two thermostats, one for the cool side, and one for the basking side?

UTH's do not affect the air temperature in the tank so if your room gets below 75 2 UTH's really isn't going to cut it. They would also both need their own thermostat.

Might I suggest PVC enclosures over tank. PVC enclosures are much easier to keep the proper temperature and humidity and look great.

Here is a thread on PVC cages: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...69#post1763769

The company that makes the PVC cages pictured above also makes really nice racks. Here is their website: http://www.animalplastics.com/
