    Spray Paint Hides

Loki has had a few difficult sheds recently and I'm wondering if it's because everything in her tank is smooth and she has nothing rough to rub on. So I started thinking about using textured spray paint (like this) to cover her hides.

Any thoughts about safety for my snake?

They have non toxic sprays but I don't know about textured ones. You can just use a non toxic sealer afterwards if your worried about it.

Be careful what surface you cover with the textured paint. It tends to chip off of flexible and extremely smooth surfaces.

Ive had better luck painting plastic surfaces with Krylon Plastic Fuse. Rough up the surface with sand paper and after a couple of coats of base, spray the texture.

    Re: Spray Paint Hides

Me, personally, I'd be a little cautious of doing something like that. Like someone else mentioned, wouldn't it be easier to get something like cork bark, or some kind of semi-rough rock to put in the cage? Then there would be no worries

I've used the "make it stone" paint on all of my fake rock walls and some hides for my geckos. It works really well. I've only used it on styrofoam and clay. I put a few layers of grout for texture and to make sure it's strong, then I paint it with a regular black house paint, then the Krylon spray paint, and FINALLY I use min-wax polycryrlic to seal it and make it water proof.

This method make for very strong, easy to clean, and durable home made creations. I'm actually currently in the process of using the spray paint to put some color and texture on some clay bases for fake plants that will be going in a crested geckos cage. It's a great product, as long as you properly seal it and have the time.

I think you have a "low humidity" issue.
I have a arched driftwood chunk and a hollow log hide and a smooth glass waterdish and I find shed peices stuck to all three.
How she makes her shed stick to smooth glass is beyond my understanding....buy it still happens, even the smooth glass tank walls gets shed stuck to it.
