    Give me some SITE FEEDBACK!

    Howdy everyone.

Things are settling down on my end and I've got some time to focus on BP.net.

We're due for another round of upgrades soon. Nothing as drastic as the 4.x upgrade like we had a little while back. Just some patches and whatnot to make the site run a bit smoother.

The 4.x upgrades were intended to keep the site fresh and easy to navigate - however, some of you veterans had trouble adjusting to the changes.

I'd like to get some feedback from you all, new and veterans, of what could be improved around here to speed up your work flow.

How do you navigate the site?
What are some site options that you wished were else where? or easier to access?
Overall BP.net themes? Need something fresh? or stick with what we've got?

Anything you want to throw out there - I'm gonna consider and see how we can improve with our next upgrades.

    Thanks everyone

Re: Give me some SITE FEEDBACK!

imo, the site is great, and its layed out better than any other forum ive been to the only thing i would change is, i would put the caresheet forum in with the DIY and caging forums, and move the general husbandry and supplies section with those three forums between the site general and ball pythons sections, where the caresheets are now. to me it makes sense to group those three together, plus it might make the caging forum easier to find for the people that are new here, i know i didnt even notice it for at least a few days, but that could be because i was going through everything else

    Server 404 problems.

Noticed when i check site around 12am-3am site is down almost every day. Sometimes the site even takes mins to load a single page during normal hours.

    Thanks,

I've noticed that too. I get literally HUNDREDS of e-mails during that time frame stating the problem.

I think it may have something to do with our nightly site back ups. During the back ups, the database "shuts down" and doesn't allow any querying of any sort, thus, blocking all the traffic. But why it takes hours to accomplish? That's what I'm trying to determine right now.

Re: Give me some SITE FEEDBACK!

I was thinking make it easier to delete images cause to me it seems to long , I don't know if it was me just being non-observant for like 'forever' ,but it was a severely long time before I figured out how to delete the old images I had uploaded here.
Its so much simpler to upload images than it is to remove them.

Uploading: Gallery>My Images> +upload images and u can do several at once.

Deleting: Gallery>My Images> [Select an image] > Image tools > Edit Image >Check the box and click 'Delete This Image'

If you happen to have a have a lot of pictures uploaded and you suddenly want to clear some of them out you'd have to go thru this process for every single one. It'd be easier to be able to see all your images from "My images' and click a little check box under the images you want gone and deleting several at once.

If there is a function already that allows u to do that then forgive my ignorance and further nonobservance I know this isin't a image hosting site like photobucket

    Still and awesome site regardless

Agreed. The pictures in my opinion seem to be hard to upload as well to delete. I will also add a few things.

The site runs well, like Rich says a little hard in the morning but that's it. I do think if you're going to do some upgrades a little expansion would be nice. I myself have been debating on posting a thread asking to not only expand the caresheets, but also maybe go into a little education. Like maybe we could have people add reptile related classes near them and the such. (vauge idea that could easily be expanded) This is a very nice forum and I'm glad i finally joined after about 2 years. Besides the few errors every now and then it's awesome!

Sorry if I kinda went off on feedback?

I mainly navigate using Tapatalk on my iPad and the site works perfectly on it! Although I can't delete the pictures I uploaded.

    Maybe a few new sections:
    like upcoming events(shows)
how to section(setting up cages, sexing a bp, building things),
health section(common illness & signs & remedys & known good reptile vets)

    Sent from my iPad2

For me uploading pictures is difficult, I think when I upload something if it could automatically resize it that would be awesome, Im not super tech savvy so sometimes its hard for me to figure this stuff out.

I also dont like how you only get so many for sale posts. Well at least I think you should get a few more. When I post looking for something that counts as one? Kinda makes it tough. Also noticed its difficult to get information on how to ugrade my account. If this information was advertised a little better more people might upgrade their account.

I also dont really care for the way the homepage displays the last few posts. I noticed that sometimes when I post late at night (I work nights) my post goes completely un noticed and falls to the wayside. I posted a question once and got NO responses at all. Unfortunately I have no suggestions on this but I dont really care for the current format.

I dont really think the reputation system works. I mean everyone just clicks thanks and no rep so I think this is flawed.

All of this however, is just my opinion and overall love the site and will continue to use. Whatever you do dont get rid of the "bruise" color scheme. I love it.

Hope people dont hate me for this one but just a suggestion. What if there were options when you first visit the site that broke it down like BALL PYTHONS, BOAS, CARPETS ect, so that way if I select Ball Pythons I only see posts regarding to Ball pythons. Or have a setting that I can filter out what I dont read. I love this site but it is call Ball Pythons.net and frequently see posts abotu everything else that really is not of my interest. Again sorry to other keepers just figured this might be a good idea.

The software we use was in its latest release when we installed it. They've come a long way since we installed it - so hopefully the upgrades offer some more flexibility

Noted. And it's a constant discussion for us.

I agree with the layout. It seems a little cluttered to me and I've been thinking of new ways to lay out the site so it's cleaner and easier to find what you're after.

Pretty valid point. But it would ruffle feathers if we removed one or the other.

Yes, I like the darker themes as well - however, I see room for improvement

No, actually that's not a bad idea at all. BP.net started as just a Ball Python forum, but through numerous requests and the inevitable evolution of the forum, it's turned in to much more. That's why our slogan is "ALL your herping needs"

I do like the idea of breaking things down into more quickly accessible core categories. I also really like the idea of being able to filter out posts in forums you're not really interested in. I'm going to look deeper into that.

Keep the suggestions coming. Feedback is how our forum grows and evolves into a community that you enjoy and appreciate being a part of.

    Thanks everyone
