Ummm, dude!?!? You are supposed to know what the market value is and how much you are willing to spend in order for it to be a good deal in your eyes before you start bidding. Either way, congrats!

    Re: Won a Red Tail...

depends on what your looking for. I commonly see red tails on Craigslist for $50 to Free and I dont have to pay shipping. But I agree you shouldnt be bidding on something that you dont know the value of... Congrats?

I think there's a big difference between buying off craigslist and buying from a well known breeder...auction or not I haven't seen any bad reviews (I'm sure there has to be at least one, I've just never seen one) and had a more than satisfactory experience when I went there in person Even for a normal $47 + $39 shipping = good deal either way. Congrats...

Thanks! I was kinda being sarcastic about the price. Most of the ones I've seen we're 100+...and my pet store has theirs for 250 lol.

Honestly I disagree with this to a point. I give big name breeders their props but I think its about quality of the animal. Lately there have been several complaints (another post) about a very well known breeder regarding the quality of their animals. And why am I going to pay way more for a snake just because its from a big time breeder when I can get (in my opinion) a better quality one off craigslist?

I have several CL ball pythons and with that said I could go and inspect the animal before making a purchase. I can ensure the quality and get it at a fraction of the cost.

I just don't understand why people insist on paying for a name. I guess its Kraft over Safeway brand.. guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's not just any name. I'm not sticking up for "big name breeders" I'm sticking up for Ben Siegals, which I have personally seen the cleanliness and quality of the animals. Trust me, I generally stay away from "big name breeders" simply because I know quite a few small scale local breeders that produce just as good, if not better quality. I'm just saying, 90% of the time you get a reptile on craigslist, there's going to be something wrong. Whereas, Ben Siegal, 90% of the time (if not more) you'll have a good experience and receive a quality healthy animal Not talking all big names here just to clarify...
