what ratio for this size tub? large pet mate

im building a mouse breeding rack using petmate large litter pans.
    they are 18.5 x 15.3 x 5.3
i was planning on putting 1.5 per tub but was thinking i might be able to put more. just not sure if thats wise or not.
    any opinions would be appreciated.
i bred mice in lab trays that were much smaller and had 1.3 in them. these are considerably larger. i quit breeding mice since i didnt have a need for them. now i have a need so ill be building a rack to house 9 of these tubs.

1.3 in a lab tray is toooo many. I have 2-3 at a time only for breeding, then I move them to their own individual bins for the rest of the time, and it's still cramped.

1.5 would be fine in that size, I'd think. Any more and you'd be pushing it on stress. You already may have issues with the females not feeling like they have enough space to nest properly, and being jealous of each other's space.

thats probably why i had quite a few issues with cannibalism, and babies not growing properly. had great litters but bad growth. i have been breeding rats now for over a year with great success. problem i have now is im buying mice to start the balls off with and still feeding off too many young rats that i should be letting grow up. so i have to try my hand at mice again.
thanks and ill try a tub with 1.5 and another with 1.4 and see if one is any better than the other.
    thanks

I use the large size tub for my mice. I have colonies of 1.3 up to 1.8 in those tubs... Just have to clean more often if they're cramped. I start with 1.8, and then just end up with what ever works for a colony....

Ah, so they've got about the same floor space as a ten gallon tank. A bit more.
