They usually explode of they’ve been thawed in too hot water / too hot on a radiator in my experience

A friend is giving me her excess hairless rats. They tend to rupture very easily when a snake constricts them. I guess the lack of hair makes their skin less durable.

Could be. All I know is that I make a point of offering them to the snakes who are less enthusiastic about "killing" their f/t feeders.
