Correct size to order for hatchlings?
Got two new hatchlings arriving this week and I wanted to order some frozen rats before they get here (probably from layne labs since rodentpro doesn't have smaller quantities). I haven't had a younger ball in a long time, so I need to know what size rats I should order? I was thinking a bag of their fuzz size and a bag of their pups size? Any advice would be appreciated. I figure if they aren't full then I'll feed them two.

do you have a scale?
do you know how much they weigh?
if theyre really small
70-80g fuzzies
100g+ i would give 2-3 surplus of fuzzies or just start with hoppers.

So stick with mice and not rats? No, unfortunately I do not know their size at this time.

No, balls can eat rats right out of the egg. Don't even waste your time with mice. You can pick up a cheap food scale at Wal-Mart or Amazon.com. Without a scale, just use your best judgement. Feed them rats that will be approximately as big around as the fattest part of their bodies. Most hatchlings have no problems with fuzzies as their first meals. Sight unseen, it sounds like you have the right idea with picking up a bag of fuzzies and a bag of pups. Worst comes to worst offer them two if they are on the small size.

200g at 6+ months? That is very small! With proper feeding they should be closer to 400-500+ grams at 6 months of age.

All my hatchlings go right on rat pinks out of the egg and it doesnt take long for them to get on fuzzies. Go with rats. Its easier then stsrting on mice and going through the switch

Re: Correct size to order for hatchlings?
I prefer to start with rat fuzzies and move to pups as soon as possible. But I have a heck of a time with some snakes switching to rats.
