I have a zoomed uth and i use a red light for the day time heat. Is the heat pad enough at night or should i still run the light, if so how would i lower temps at night.

Re: is the heat pad enough
well, they dont actually need a drop in temps at night. what kind of setup do you have?

as long as it is a thermostat, it should be fine if you don't have your AC blasting.

its a 10g zoomed on one side and the light above on the other side temps are 92 hot and 85 cool during day i just got them in this setup so not sure about night temps but i dont wanna freeze them tonight. Before they had a higher watt bulb in the day and a lower red but i finally have the uth and want to eliminate the light at night but if i cant thats fine too. and if they dont need a drop at night im not as concerned but most the care sheets i've read say to up in day and lower at night.

care sheets are not reliable.
you dont need a light either.
If you need your cold side temps up for some reason I would use a ceramic heat emitter, but lights will suck humidity and stress out your snake.
No need for night drops at all.
I hope you have a thermostat on your UTH.
You want your cold side no lower than 78, 80-82 is fine. 85 is a little on the high side. Doubtful you need a heat source at all unless your AC is on 75 or lower.

I have a ceramic heat emitter and UtH on a thermostat and temps stay perfect. Only thing I have noticed with it is that it sucks up humidity.

I use a Herpstat, they run a little over $100 there are cheaper solutions but I feel that a good thermostat is an investment that you need to make.

With a UTH, you DEFINITELY need a thermostat, as you have already noticed. There are pretty cheap ones and thats the minimum you could do for them, but they could be a slight hassle at the start as they arent very accurate or dont even have specific temperature readings, just high and low and in between. However I do feel that they are reliable enough once set up, but just keep a probe thermometer over the hot spot for good measure. But sorry I can't exactly help with which thermostat you should get with a low budget.
Your UTH should keep the floor temps pretty much the same if you have a thermostat on it, even if the surrounding temperatures drop. However UTH's arent great with heating up the air in your enclosure, and so the ambient temps may drop. If it does drop below 75, I would say you need a bulb (also on thermostat) to ensure the air is not too cold. So I wouldn't throw out the idea of a bulb just yet..
