    Dilated Anus after Large Poop

Well she took her first poop since I've had here. She's been holding it in 8.5 months and let me tell you that was some big poop. She's been like this for a few days. I've soaked her in room temp. water, but slightly warmer. I've made sure to clean the area daily. Is there anything I can use to help her retract her anus?

    Anyone have any ideas?

You might try a little Preparation H on it, or some powdered sugar and water paste

Re: Dilated Anus after Large Poop

I had pretty much that exact thing (a tiny bit worse) happen to my one female after she went a year(ish) without going. After you put the PrepH on it will likely look fine..the problem tends to come a few hours after it has been applied, at which time hers would start to look worse again. I ended up using PrepH every other day and putting a bit of tape over her vent. Took me about a week and a half to get it to stay in, and she has been defecating fine since then...no issues at all.

triple biotic salve works well too..I'd guess and say animals that hold it THAT long do not get enough handling/exercise..With a good handful of this sort of animal we have never experienced that length of time..30-60 days being the norm here..We have seen the condition though which comes from passing soda can size turds..Kept clean and hydrated it should bounce back without issue..

I don't handle much anymore. Maybe once a week for 30 minutes, but she's a lazy girl. Reminds me of my spoiled dogs thinking they are in heaven... lol. She was also a rescue so idk how much the previous owner handled her. Although she does move around quite frequently in her cage. For the time being she's on newspaper and I'm putting preparation H on her daily. I figured it would be best to not feed her till she's all better.
