    Re: Smell

Hmmm....I have six (10 gallon tanks) with mice in them and have absolutely no odor at all.

Keep in mind that mine are in the basement and not closed off in a hot bedroom.

I use aspen bedding along with pine pellets mixed in (except for the cages that have newborn babies). I thoroughly clean their cages every Wed. and Sunday - I realize I only have 6 tanks so I can do this without too much hassle.

I hope you find a workable solution.

Ookay. The plan as it sits right now:

    Getting pine pellets for bedding.
Build a fan box that is plumbed outside..i just need to come up with a timer. I want a set time and then adjustable intervals.. So say 10 min every 3 hours.

    And keep using the vanilla.

    Re: Smell

About the vanilla - what do you do with this - put it in their water?? I've never tried this. Is it regular vanilla from the grocery store??

    Thx

I use vanilla extract in the baking isle. Just directly in the bottles.

Yeah use pure vanilla extract from the baking aisle, not the imitation or anything . I think most people add 1-2 drops.

    I'll play devil's advocate...I'm an honest guy, and I don't sugar coat.
You're screwed, mice stink. Nothing helps..
    Sorry.

Use Pine Pellets and change often. 3 times a day i open window and vent it out for 10 mins at time. Cant go too long as snakes are in same room and dont want it to cool too much.
Why not use baking soda? I have used it as a base layer for a couple years with my ASFS and never had a problem, but they don't usually dig into the shavings. just asking!

Its not something youd put on your rodents before feeding, why have the rodents live in it. Kick up the powder all over thier fur and feed it.

Its a risk i wouldnt take for nothing.
